CAF Champions League: Enyimba beats Cotonsport 2-0

CAF Champions League: Enyimba beats Cotonsport 2-0 •Kaduna Utd out of Confederation Cup

ENYIMBA extended their unbeaten run in the CAF Champions League to 11 matches after they defeated Cotonsport of Cameroon 2-0 in a Group A match in Aba yesterday.
The Nigerian champions have been undefeated in Africa’s premier club competition since October 2008 and did not appear to want to slow down in front of their home fans against a team which humiliated them in the same competition in September 2008 by thrashing them 3-0 in Garoua.
Enyimba thus finished top of the group on 14 points from six matches and will take on Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the semi-final of the competition.
Al Hilal of Sudan grabbed the other semi-final ticket after they held hosts Raja Casablanca of Morocco to a goalless draw in Morocco.
The Sudanese giants finished on eight points, a point ahead of Cotonsport, who were beaten in the final of the competition three years ago.
The semi-finals will be played in the weekends of October 1 and 2 with the return legs two weeks later.
Meanwhile, KADUNA United have been eliminated from this year’s CAF Confederation Cup after they lost 1-0 at home to Club Africain of Tunisia Sunday.
Kaduna needed to win by a big score Sunday, but instead they fell to their Tunisian rivals after they failed to convert two penalties.
Kaduna, who held Club Africain to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture, finished bottom of the group on five points after Asec recorded seven points courtesy of their 1-0 home victory over group leaders Interclube of Angola.
Club Africain thus finished top of the group on 11 points and will now clash with Sunshine Stars of Nigeria in the semi-final, while Interclube take on Maghreb de Fes in the other semi-final.
The Tunisians took the lead from the penalty spot after 45 minutes which was converted by Chaker Rguii.
Kaduna leading scorer Jude Aneke had earlier in that half failed to put his team in front when his own penalty was saved by goalkeeper Aymen Ben Ayoub.
Benjamin Ishaya again lost a second spot kick for the Nigerians five minutes into the second half as Club Africain held on for an important win on the road. The effort hit the post and rolled into touch.
